Featuring:Dr. Russell Warren
Hospital for Special Surgery, New York
Recorded From a Live Broadcast on:
June 27, 2000
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament, or ACL, is one of the major stabilizing forces within the knee. When it is torn, the knee becomes weak and unsteady, and can be repaired by a graft, either from the patient's own body or a donor's. For more information about this surgery, click here.
Watch as Dr. Russell Warren, chief of orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery and team physician for the New York Giants, performs an ACL reconstruction on the knee of a young female athlete. The surgery is broadcast in its entirety, including harvesting, preparation and fixation of the ligament graft.
Dr. Warren will use portions of the patient's hamstring tendons to reconstruct the ligament. This surgery will utilize Smith & Nephew's Endobutton Fixation System to attach the ligament graft to the bone, securing it in place.
The Webcast Features:
- Live footage from inside the operating room
- Step by step commentary and explanation by Dr. Warren
- Direct video feed from the surgeon's endoscope
- Synchronized slides giving details and graphical representations of the surgery
