Bi - Lateral Knee Replacement

For anyone out there who needs both knees replaced at once I have hope for you. This was suggested to me by my doctor and I didn't know what to do. I have been a hairdresser for 42 years and it had taken a toll on my body, specifically my knees.I had developed severe arthritis in both my knees. At first they used cortisone which helped for awhile then they used the needles( Synvisc) which helped for a short time and then they did Arthroscopic surgery on one knee and that only helped for a short time. After all this the realty was that I still needed knee replacements. Of course like many of you I was in denial and I said no way was I going to do this. Then I said this really hurts bad then I said GET ME A DOCTOR!Once I made the decision it took about 3 months for the doctor to be able to do it because of having a busy schedule.I also researched the internet and found the Knee 1 website. I appealed to anyone who could help me with the fear that I had. Someone did respond to me and helped to give me the courage that I needed to proceed.I thank him very much for helping me.I had the surgery on Sept. 30,2003 and I am about to embark on my year anniversary.I was out of work for 4 mos.( I was lucky to have disability ins. which paid me a portion of my pay) I know some of you aren't as fortunate.I went back to my regular schedule and am still working. I have a 35 hour work week and one of those days is a 13 hour day. I am doing wonderful. I am 57 years old and I still continue to get better and better.I had 2 good surgeons and a very good hospital. This is very important to have good doctors. Don't go to a doctor because he's nice.Check him out and research everything. My doctor had me do excercises 2 months before my surgery to strengthen my muscles. This I think was a big plus.Surgery went well, after I went to a rehab center to get therapy, then home then out to therapy 3 times a week. I'm not going to say that it's without pain and hard work but you can do it.I still do excercises to help me limber up.If any one wants to e-mail me with questions I would be glad to help. I would like to give back to someone like I was helped. Thank You, Elaine
