Just got the news
I just came from my Orthopods office with a diagnosis of Patellofemoral sydrome and a small miniscus tear - went right to the computer to do a search and find out more. All of your stories sound so similar to mine, that believe it or not, it's been reassuring to read your comments - at least I have a better idea of why, how, where to go from here. I've been through one round of PT already with about 75% improvement in function and reduced pain. I guess I thought that this would be a short term situation and I'd recover relatively quickly after the PT so I was really pretty defeated when I hadn't made a faster recovery - now I know it's going to be a long haul, without a lot of dedicated therapy and perhaps never a 100% recover. I'm 53, used to be very active, walked daily 5 miles a day but recently had gotten somewhat "lazy" and gained a great deal of weight - So last Spring my husband and I decided to join a health club and get back in shape, within 2 months, I was having terrible pain, swelling, limping and awful cracking sounds in my right knee - Of course, I ignored it for several months until I could practically not walk - cause I though it was just cause I was so out of shape! Finally went to see the specialist and initially it was injected with no relief, MRI then showed the tear and PT was started. My friends who know me well, chuckle when they hear I've got an "athletic injury" - I'm far from the athlete. So I've read with interest all of your stories, especially those of the young athletes, as it makes me feel a little better. I've always been extremelly flat footed and never realized the serious implications that can have as you get older - I've also been plagued with problems with plantar fasciitis - so getting older is no fun! But thanks to everyone for sharing your insights, it has been helpful to me!
